Heinrich Detering (born 1959) is a German literary scholar, translator, and poet. He studied German literature, Protestant theology, Scandinavian studies, and philosophy, and taught modern German and comparative literature, first in Kiel and later at the University of Göttingen. His scholarly work includes books on Thomas Mann, Goethe, Karl Marx, Irmgard Keun, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, and Bob Dylan. He has also published volumes of poetry and literary translations. His honors include the Julius Campe Prize, the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, and the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation. His long-standing engagement with Bob Dylan resulted in the monograph “Bob Dylan” (2009).
