Doris Runge

Doris Runge was born in 1943 in Carlow, Mecklenburg, and studied education in Kiel. She spent several years in Spain and published numerous volumes of poetry, including her debut collection, “jagdlied” (1985), as well as the essay “Welch ein Weib. Mädchen und Frauengestalten bei Thomas Mann” (1998). Her poetry earned her the Friedrich Hebbel Prize in 1985 and the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize of the City of Bad Homburg in 1997. Further honors included the Schleswig-Holstein Art Prize (1998) and the Ida Dehmel Literature Prize (2007). Runge held the Liliencron Lectureship at the University of Kiel and a poetics professorship at the University of Bamberg; she was appointed professor in 2009 and admitted to the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz in 2012.
