Harper Lee

Harper Lee (1926–2016) was an American writer. Born in Monroeville, Alabama, she studied law at the University of Alabama before leaving without a degree, moving to New York, and working for an airline. Her novel *To Kill a Mockingbird* was published in 1960, translated into numerous languages, and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. In 2015, the previously presumed-lost novel *Go Set a Watchman* was published. Lee was a friend of Truman Capote and assisted him with research for *In Cold Blood*. In 2007, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
