Hans Ulrich Treichel

Hans-Ulrich Treichel, born in 1952 in Versmold, Westphalia, is a German poet and fiction writer. He studied German literature at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1984 with a dissertation on Wolfgang Koeppen. After working as a German-language lecturer in Italy, he was a research associate at the Free University of Berlin from 1985 to 1991 and completed his habilitation in 1993. From 1995 to 2018, he was a professor at the German Literature Institute of Leipzig University. His works include the 2014 story collection “Frühe Störung.” Treichel received, among other honors, the Annette von Droste-Hülshoff Prize in 2003 and the Eichendorff Literature Prize in 2006.
