Hans Georg Gadamer

Hans-Georg Gadamer (1900–2002) was a German philosopher and one of the leading representatives of twentieth-century philosophical hermeneutics. He studied philosophy, German, history, and art history in Breslau and Marburg, and received his doctorate from Paul Natorp in 1922. In 1928 he completed his habilitation under Martin Heidegger. Gadamer taught in Marburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt am Main, and Heidelberg; from 1949 to 1968, he was a professor in Heidelberg. His major work, Truth and Method, was published in 1960 and had a lasting influence on modern hermeneutics.
