Hannes Binder

Hannes Binder (born 1947 in Zurich) is a Swiss illustrator, graphic artist, painter and comic artist. He studied at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts and subsequently worked as a graphic artist and illustrator in Milan and Hamburg. He became particularly known for his illustrations and crime comics based on novels by Friedrich Glauser. Between 1988 and 2005, he created seven comics based on Glauser’s works. Binder’s work is noted for its use of the scratchboard technique, which he also employed for books and contributions to newspapers and magazines. His work has received several distinctions, including the Swiss Children’s and Young People’s Media Prize and, in 2022, the Culture Prize of the Canton of Zurich; he was also nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
