Johanna Spyri (1827–1901) was a Swiss writer. Born Johanna Louise Heusser in Hirzel in the canton of Zurich, she became internationally known for the children’s novel *Heidi’s Lehr- und Wanderjahre* (1880) and its sequel *Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat* (1881). Spyri published around 50 stories and wrote primarily children’s literature and religious works. She died in Zurich in 1901.
