Gunter Gebauer (born 1944) was a professor of philosophy and sports science at Freie Universität Berlin. His research fields include historical anthropology, social and philosophy of language, and the history and sociology of the body. He was involved in the university’s Collaborative Research Centre “Cultures of the Performative” and its Cluster of Excellence “Languages of Emotion,” and held visiting professorships in Paris, Strasbourg, and Hiroshima. Gebauer has published numerous books, including “Das Leben in 90 Minuten. Eine Philosophie des Fußballs” (2016). A former competitive long jumper, he had a longstanding familiarity with the Olympic world. In 2018, he received the German Olympic Sports Confederation’s Ethics Prize.
