Gudrun Mebs was born in 1944 and grew up in Frankfurt am Main. After training as an actress and working for several years in the theater, she began writing children’s books in 1980. She also wrote screenplays, radio programs, and radio plays. Her best-known works include the stories about Frieder and his grandmother. Mebs received numerous awards for her books and radio plays, including the German Youth Literature Prize, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Bavarian Order of Merit.
