Gerhart Baum

Gerhart Baum (1932–2025) was a German politician and lawyer. A member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), he held various positions on its federal executive board from 1966 to 1998. From 1978 to 1982, he served as Federal Minister of the Interior. Baum returned to practicing law in 1994 and was an advocate of the rule of law. In 2021, he received the Marion Dönhoff Prize for his commitment to international understanding and reconciliation.
