Gerhard Kaiser

Born in 1933, Gerhard Kaiser first trained as a blacksmith before studying history at Moscow University. He received a doctorate in philosophy from Leipzig University. From 1956 to 1968, he served in the National People’s Army of the GDR, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. Until 1991, he was involved, among other activities, in sociological research for Deutscher Fernsehfunk, and he taught at the University of Göttingen. Kaiser published numerous works on German military history and military policy.
