Gerd Wiegel

Gerd Wiegel is a political scientist. He studied at Philipps University Marburg, where he completed his doctorate under Reinhard Kühnl. From 1998 to 2003, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Marburg; from 2004 to 2005, he worked for the Mobile Counseling Service against Right-Wing Extremism in Thuringia. From 2006 onward, he worked as an adviser to the Left Party parliamentary group in the German Bundestag on right-wing extremism and antifascism. Wiegel has published numerous articles and studies on the far right in Germany and Europe and on approaches to Germany’s Nazi past. His publications include “Ein aufhaltsamer Aufstieg: Alternativen zu AfD & Co.” (2017).
