Gerd Laux studied psychology and medicine in Mainz and Heidelberg and trained as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry in Weinsberg and Würzburg. In 1983, he conducted research on the biological aspects of depression at the University of Texas in Dallas on a research fellowship. He subsequently held senior medical positions at the university hospitals in Würzburg and Bonn and, until 1995, directed the Department of Medical Psychology at the University of Bonn. From 1996 to 2013, he was medical director of the Inn-Salzach Hospital. His research focused on the pharmacology of antidepressants, traffic medicine, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Laux published more than 450 scientific papers and contributed as author or co-author to 37 books.
