Gabi Thieme, born in 1953, was born and raised in the Ore Mountains. She studied journalism in Leipzig and from 1976 worked as an editor and deputy head of the Karl-Marx-Stadt office of the East German news agency ADN. In 1990 she joined the Chemnitz-based newspaper Freie Presse, where she worked until the end of 2018, among other roles as a local editor-in-chief, head of the Saxony desk, and police and court reporter. She reported extensively on numerous criminal cases in Saxony. Her first solo book, Mord im Regionalexpress: Authentische Kriminalfälle aus Sachsen, was published in 2020, followed by Das fast perfekte Verbrechen (2022) and Auf dem Schulweg verschwunden.
