Elisabeth Hauptmann (1897–1973) was a German writer, translator, and dramaturge. Born in Peckelsheim, she met Bertolt Brecht in 1924 and subsequently became one of his close collaborators. She contributed to several of his plays, including The Threepenny Opera and Saint Joan of the Stockyards. After Brecht’s death, Hauptmann worked as a dramaturge at the Berliner Ensemble and played a major role in founding the Brecht Archive and publishing the complete edition of Brecht’s works.
