Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956) was a German playwright, poet, and prose writer. Born in Augsburg, he died in Berlin. He worked, among other positions, as a dramaturg at the Munich Kammerspiele and at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. One of his best-known works is The Threepenny Opera (1928), created in collaboration with Kurt Weill. Regarded as one of the most important German-language dramatists of the 20th century, Brecht shaped the development of epic theatre.
