Elisabeth Fetscher, born in 1929, studied Romance languages and history at the universities of Marburg and Frankfurt am Main. In 1950 and 1951, she translated early texts by Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer there. She also wrote numerous contributions for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
