Eckhart Nickel

Eckhart Nickel, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1966, studied literary studies and art history in Heidelberg and New York. He worked for the television channel Arte in Strasbourg and wrote for newspapers and magazines. Nickel was a member of the pop-literary group “Tristesse Royale” and made his debut in 2000 with the story collection “Was ich davon halte.” From 2004 to 2006, he co-edited the literary magazine “Der Freund” in Kathmandu with Christian Kracht. His books include “Gebrauchsanweisung für Portugal,” “Von unterwegs,” “Hysteria,” and “Spitzweg.” He received the Kelag Prize in 2017 for “Hysteria”; “Spitzweg” was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2022. Nickel also received the Friedrich Hölderlin Advancement Award in 2019 and a Baldreit scholarship in 2022.
