Christian Kracht, born in Switzerland in 1966, is a Swiss writer and journalist. He studied film at university in the United States and worked for various publications before establishing himself as an author. His notable novels include Faserland, 1979, I Will Be Here in the Sunshine and in the Shadow, Imperium, The Dead and Eurotrash. He has also published travel writing, including The Yellow Pencil, and co-authored Ferien für immer with Eckhart Nickel. Kracht received the Wilhelm Raabe Prize in 2012, followed by the Swiss Book Prize and the Hermann Hesse Literature Prize in 2016.
