Durian Sukegawa (born 1962) studied philosophy at Waseda University in Tokyo. The Japanese author wrote novels and poetry and also worked as an actor, punk musician, and television and radio presenter. His novel “Kirschblüten und rote Bohnen” became a bestseller in Japan and was adapted by Naomi Kawase as a film selected for the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. “Die Insel der Freundschaft” was published in 2017.
