Dorothy Thompson (1893–1961) was an American journalist and foreign correspondent. She reported from Europe on the Zionist movement and the Irish struggle for independence and became the first woman to serve as a correspondent in Vienna and Berlin. Thompson interviewed, among others, Leon Trotsky, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and Sigmund Freud. In 1932 she published I Met Hitler!, an analysis of Adolf Hitler and his followers. She was expelled from Germany in 1934 because of her critical reporting. In the United States, Thompson worked as a columnist and warned against fascism. During the Second World War, she also addressed German listeners on the radio. She was married to the writer Sinclair Lewis.
