Daniel Pennac

Daniel Pennac, born Daniel Pennacchioni, was born in 1944 in Casablanca, Morocco. The French writer grew up as the fourth of four sons in Africa and Asia because his father was frequently transferred as a military officer. After studying literature in Nice, Pennac worked as a teacher in Paris for more than two decades before devoting himself entirely to writing from 1995 onward. He became known especially for the Malaussène crime novels, as well as for books for children and young adults. His literary essay »Like a Novel« explores readers’ rights. In 2007, he received France’s Prix Renaudot for the autobiographical novel »School Sorrow«.
