Dagmar Ploetz (born 1946 in Herrsching, Germany) grew up in Argentina and studied German and Hispanic studies, or Romance languages and literatures, in Munich. She initially worked as an editor and freelance journalist before becoming a freelance translator of Spanish-language literature in 1983. Her translations included works by Isabel Allende, Rafael Chirbes, Juan Marsé, Juan Rulfo, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Gabriel García Márquez. In 2010, she published a biography of García Márquez. She received the Munich Translation Prize in 2012 for her work as a translator.
