Cornelia Schleime (born 1953 in East Berlin) is a German painter, graphic artist, and filmmaker. After training as a hairdresser and make-up artist and working as a horse keeper, she studied painting and graphic art at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1975 to 1980. In East Germany, she was subject to an exhibition ban in 1981. She moved to West Berlin in 1984, and the early work she had created up to that point has since been considered lost. Schleime also worked in installation, sculpture, photography, and film. Her notable series included “Der Zopf,” “Die Nonnen,” and “Die Päpste.” Among her awards were the Gabriele Münter Prize (2003), the Fred Thieler Prize (2004), the Award of Excellent Painting from the National Art Museum of China (2005), and the Hannah Höch Prize (2016).
