Colson Whitehead

Colson Whitehead, born in New York in 1969, is an American writer and journalist. He studied at Harvard University and worked for publications including the New York Times, Harper’s and Granta; he also worked as a television critic. His novel The Underground Railroad won the National Book Award in 2016 and the Pulitzer Prize in 2017. The Nickel Boys also received the Pulitzer Prize in 2020. His other notable works include John Henry Days, Zone One and Harlem Shuffle. Whitehead has also received the Whiting Writers Award and the Young Lion’s Fiction Award and was a MacArthur “Genius” Fellow.
