Brigitte van Kann, born in 1953, studied German and Slavic studies in Heidelberg and Hamburg. From 1985 onward, she worked freelance as a translator, radio author and editor, as well as an interpreter, including for the Vienna State Opera. She wrote reviews and contributions for outlets including Deutschlandfunk, WDR and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Her subjects include Russian culture and the history of Russian Jews. As an editor, she published, among other works, Honoré de Balzac’s “A Glimpse of My Desire: Report of a Journey to Russia in 1847” with the Friedenauer Presse.
