Birgit Brandau (born 1951) studied theatre studies and education. She worked as a dramaturg at several German theatres and spent a total of 17 years in the theatre, cultural and public-relations sectors. From 1994 onward, she worked as a freelance editor, author and translator. Her publications include the Hittite historical novel *Der Sieger von Kadesch* (2001) and *Troia. Eine Stadt und ihr Mythos* (1997). She co-authored *Hethiter. Die unbekannte Weltmacht* (2001) with Hartmut Schickert and *Troia. Wie es wirklich aussah* (2004) with Peter Jablonka.
