August Zirner

August Zirner, born in 1956 in Illinois, is an American-Austrian actor and musician. The son of Austrian emigrants of Jewish origin, he grew up in the United States and has lived in Europe since 1973. He studied at Vienna’s Max Reinhardt Seminar and subsequently performed in Hannover, Wiesbaden and Vienna, as well as at the Münchner Kammerspiele, where he was an ensemble member for eight years. Zirner has appeared in more than 140 film and television productions, including the award-winning film The Counterfeiters. He received the Grimme Award in 2006 for the television drama Wut. Alongside his acting career, he has also performed as a jazz flutist in programs combining spoken word and music.
