Arnold Stadler

Arnold Stadler, born in Meßkirch in 1954, is a German writer, essayist, and translator. He grew up on a farm in nearby Rast and studied Catholic theology in Munich, Rome, and Freiburg, followed by literary studies in Freiburg, Bonn, and Cologne. His publications include the novels »Feuerland«, »Ich war einmal«, »Rauschzeit«, and »Am siebten Tag flog ich zurück«, as well as the artist’s essay »Mein Leben mit Mark«. Stadler received the Georg Büchner Prize in 1999. His other distinctions included the Kleist Prize (2009), the Johann Peter Hebel Prize (2010), and the Lake Constance Literature Prize (2014).
