Marie Luise Kaschnitz (1901–1974) was a German writer. After training as a bookseller, she worked for a publishing house and in an antiquarian bookshop in Rome. Following her marriage to the archaeologist Guido Kaschnitz von Weinberg, she accompanied him on research journeys. Her literary work includes novels, short stories, essays and poetry; from 1950 onward, she also increasingly wrote radio plays. Her first novel, Liebe beginnt, was published in 1933. Kaschnitz received numerous awards and was a member of several literary academies.
