Annie Leibovitz began her career as a photojournalist at Rolling Stone in 1970, while studying at the San Francisco Art Institute. From the early 1980s onward, she worked for Vanity Fair and later Vogue. Her work included portraits of actors, directors, writers, musicians, athletes, and figures from politics and business, as well as fashion photography. Leibovitz published several books, and her photographs were shown in numerous exhibitions and museums worldwide. She was named a Commandeur of the French government’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a Living Legend by the Library of Congress. Her other honors included the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal.
