Angelika Kutsch, born in Bremerhaven in 1941, worked for many years as an editor at Friedrich Oetinger publishing house and as a translator, primarily from Swedish. She translated numerous children’s and young adult books into German, including works by Astrid Lindgren, Henning Mankell, and Sven Nordqvist. She also wrote several books for children and young adults. In 1975, she received the special prize of the German Youth Book Prize for her novel “Man kriegt nichts geschenkt.” As a translator, she was nominated 36 times for the German Youth Literature Prize and received it eight times; in 2014, she was awarded its special prize for her body of translation work.
