Albert Cohen

Albert Cohen (1895–1981) was a Swiss writer and diplomat. Born on Corfu, he grew up in Marseille after his Jewish family moved there. From 1915 to 1919, he studied law in Geneva. Cohen was involved in the Zionist movement and worked for the Jewish Agency in London during the Nazi era. As legal adviser to the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees, he helped draft the 1946 International Agreement on Refugees. His best-known works include the novel Solal (1930) and Belle du Seigneur (1968), which received the Grand prix du roman from the Académie française.
