Andrea Spingler, born in Stuttgart in 1949, began working as a freelance translator in 1980. She translated French literature into German, including works by Marguerite Duras, Patrick Modiano, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Jean-Paul Sartre, André Gide, Maylis de Kerangal, and Pascale Kramer. Her awards include the Eugen Helmlé Translator’s Prize in 2007, the Prix lémanique de la traduction in 2012, and the Paul Celan Prize in 2021 for her complete body of translation work.
