Reviewed by Hamide Kahraman The Heart Forger is the second book in The Bone Witch trilogy. Its focus shifts from world-building to its characters and the mystery surrounding them. A sleeping sickness breaks out in the known world, befalling only royals. As Prince Kance falls victim to this sickness, Tea and her friends are forced to flee Odalia. Their quest to find a cure takes them to various kingdoms, knitting the characters together in the process. It was heartwarming to watch their relationships evolve. The story is still being narrated from opposing timelines. The bard's account hints at Tea being the villain in the story. However, having witnessed the brave little girl go through her training and navigate life in a foreign city, it felt rather unlikely that she could do something horrible. Despite what others think, I do not believe Tea to be the villain. On the contrary, I suspect that she is being set up. As the story progresses, it becomes increasingly clear why Tea is exiled and branded as the rogue. The romance between Tea and Kalen was exceptional, and their chemistry simply swoon-worthy. They made it to my ultimate “favourite couples” list. The second book creates a perfect mix of mystery, intrigue and betrayal. Unlikely friendships thrive between characters, and enemies emerge from the shadows, blindsiding the reader. I enjoyed every page of this sequel!
