It's a very close call betweeen 2 and 2,5 stars, because I can't really say, that I liked this book - but I will rate it with 2,5 stars. I adored the first book of the series (it's my feel good reread book), so I dreaded reading the sequel, because I'd heard very different opionions. Unfortunately this book couldn't meet my expectations at all. I hated what Lou and most of the other characters became during the story. I'd heard a lot about how they would be evolving during this book, but it felt like the complete opposite to me. They had achieved so much in the last few pages of the first book and they lost all of that in just 100 pages. Lou seemed to be her snarky self during most of "Blood and Honey" and while I enjoyed her quarreling with Coco, Ansel and sometimes Reid, the rest of her behavior changed for the worse. She treated Reid with so little respect almost all of the time, that it felt like ... whatever the opposite of mansplaining is for women. Reid still loved her of course, because he is just the best thing that could have EVER happend to her and she wasn't grateful for that at all. Sure, there are other reasons why she was changing, but I didn't feel like they got explanied enough. Her develoment seemed a little random. One of the reasons I rated this book with 2,5 (and not 2) stars is Reid. I just got him. And as I've already said (but this can't be emphasised enough) he is the best thing that ever happend to Lou. He is trusting, caring and sure he doesn't love magic the way she does, but he has very good reasons for that. Still he tries his best to overcome some of his prejudices and you can't fault him for any of this. Ansel wasn't displayed enough in this book and it was the same with Coco - the two characters, who might have actually made this book intriguing. I would have loved to get to know a little more about them. I still don't know anything about Beau after finishing this book and I had actually forgotten him, when I started reading. The whole storyline seems very random. At first they come up with a very weird plan in like one minute and then tey are wandering around in the woods somewhere and I didn't really get why and what their ultimate goal was and ... I didn't get may things in this book ;) Still the story was kind of exiting in the second half of this book, because at least it happend a lot. Unfortuantely I saw the "plot twist" at the end and alle the drama coming from a mile away, which is why I couln't connect with the emotions displayed during the last 20 pages. I am not really looking forward to reading the finale of the series, because I am scared it might disappoint me as welll.

It’s a clear case of second book syndrome. Half of the story was just fluff that didn’t bring the story forward unfortunately. The ending was promising, so fingers crossed it gets better.

this book was fast paced. the first book was funnier and i enjoyed it more. but i'm pretty sure this one was also good. and the first book is so good, that it's worth reading the rest of the trilogy.
