First: I love the topic and the story and I’ll finish the book but (rant) honestly, in all the years I've been in literary studies, editing and proofreading, I've never, really NEVER had a draft on my desk with such poor craftsmanship (in terms of narrativ theory) And this one was published as a book. In terms of narrative theory, it is simply unbearable to change the perspective in every (!) sentence. Sometimes you have no idea who is speaking, whose thoughts you are witnessing, who the characters actually are. And as soon as you get it, you're in someone else's head and wondering again what it's all about. It's no problem for me to read different narrative perspectives chapter by chapter, but please: not a new perspective in every sentence. How does such a bungling work get through the editing? How on earth can something like this be published? It’s unbearable and dilettantic, I am appalled that an author who has already published a bestseller would deliver something like this. And the story is actually so interesting... Unfortunately, the audio book is also a complete failure. The narrator is ridiculous: she mimics foreign accents and disguises her voice as if she were a puppet on Sesame Street. I gave this book a fair chance. I also tried the German translation, but why on earth are translators nowadays incapable of using correct grammar?
