Rezension von April OttingerI have had this book on my TBR for quite some time now, but kept putting it off because I had watched the movie first. I wanted to wait as long as possible after the movie to read as I didn't want to compare the book to the movie as usually the book is much better with greater detail. Ender starts his main journey at only eleven years old after being watched by the government officials for three years by a tracker attacked to his neck. The book covers that first 5 years of his life after being thrown into battle school and command school and all the crap officials put him through to "prepare him" for war against the buggers. Little does he know exactly what they have in store for him.
Rezension von IdalisI'm basing it on the fact that I read this in middle school and loved it so much. Even got my uncle to read it and he never reads lol I've come to find out the author has some questionable theories and values for which I won't read the book again.
Rezension von JuliaYikes. This book is toxic masculin and sexist! I tried to read it, because it is praised of one of the best science fiction books for young adults ever! And now step back: what do we want to teach young adults about life when we recommend this book. That life sucks, violence is awesome, girls are weak and emotions hindering?! No this book is terrible. Nearly as terrible as the movie.
Rezension von JenayI wish I could rate this a 4.5 but I thought I would round up instead of down. Certainly not a book for young adults unless you don't mind them reading a great many uses of minor profanity. The story is well-crafted, interesting, and unique. I almost love hearing what Orson Scott Card was thinking and his process of coming up with ideas and implementing them as much as the actual text. He was very young when the idea was born and maybe that is why it is one of the most unique and untainted sci-fi books I have ever read. I am not a huge sci-fi fan but I would and have read any by Card (I didn't like the Alvin Maker series but loved Enchantment.) Definitely one of the best authors of our time.
