Atalanta was left on the hillside, simply because she was born a girl. Raised by bears and Artemis was it clear that she is not like any ordinary mortal. After Atalanta became stronger and more grown did Artemis decide to sent Atalanta away on a quest to bring her glory. She was to join Jason and his band of Argonauts on their journey for the golden fleece. Determined and confident did Atalanta began her journey. Atalanta is a fierce and strong woman who has only ever known freedom. She stands her ground against all those men who looked down on her or disrespected her. I personally really enjoyed to read about her and her journey. The Argonauts were all different in their own way. I liked Meleager and Orpheus the most. Especially Meleager. He was decent and honorable enough to defend Atalanta and to respect her. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, I didn’t grew bored of it. The only thing I didn’t really liked was the ending because it just didn’t made sense to me, but since thats what also happened in the original myth is there little I can complain about. Here a few quotes I really like: „They won’t be used to a woman of your prowess – they will never have known one before. Where they live, women don’t hunt and run and live alone.” “I’m grateful I was left to the bears” “Atalanta, chosen by Artemis, the only woman among the Argonauts” “There was a shift, I realized, in the way the rest of the crew regarded me now. That Peleus hated me still, I had no doubt. Jason had no more warmth towards me, either. I was quite certain both of them would have been glad if that arrow had struck with more lethal accuracy. They knew, though, as well as anyone else, that it was because of me that we had left the enemy behind us.” “I needed to remember who I was, who I had always been. A woman who was unafraid.”
