Für mich lest sich das leider etwas krampfig. Ich konnte mich leider nicht mit dem Schreibstil und den Protagonisten anfreunden, somit habe ich bei 30% abgebrochen.

i haven't been this sucked into a fantasy for a long time; zero complaints because this was actually perfect — sabaa tahir has a way of writing her chapters in a way that at the end of every pov there's a kind of mini cliffhanger, which makes you just neeed to keep reading, only to get just as sucked in to the other mc's pov; and all this in an endless cycle which makes it sooo fun

<b>THIS IS AS GOOD AS EVERYONE ALWAYS SAYS IT IS.</b> Oh my god, I just didn't want to put it down. I was hoping to like it due to the praise it gets, but as I was reading it, I found myself enjoying even the dark parts, which is rare. There is always something going on, and it's fantastic. The writing is phenomenal, descriptive but not to the point where it's overdone. The worldbuilding is probably my favourite thing, so unique and interesting! This book made me feel every emotion, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

4.5⭐️ Oh I loved this. This was so great. The book had mostly a kind of negative vibe to it, due to the whole Scholar and Martial thing and the unfair conditions they had to subject themselves to under the reign of the emperor, as well as everyone being unhappy and kind of wishing for the same thing in different forms; Freedom. I really liked it. The way all the characters went about things so differently while having the same starting positions. Some accepting their faith while others tried to fight it in every way possible. The storyline and backround information we got regarding the history, how we got to this point in time and also how the future might look, everything was so great and throughly described. The story in it self, now only speaking for the first book, was kind of slow paced, probably due to the writing style, which I loved. It does take a bit getting used to, but I believe it fits perfectly with the story. Elias is hilarious when given the chance istg. We only got to see this side of him a few times, due to the circumstances, mostly within arguments with Marcus, or rather briefly when he was with Laia. Him and Laia together was also such a great experience the few times we got to see them, I just love them so much. Now, Laia’s character. From the first second on we were there to see how her character developed throughout the book, she became bolder and started questioning more and taking risks. I loved. I started to really like her after the around the second half of the book, that was when the changes became more aparent. I would’ve loved to see more of Elias friends, we only got to see his best friend for most of his interactions with others, which was also nice but I think there was so much more potential with the others as well. Hope that will change in the next books, but at the same time I do get it, they’re all taking steps back to save themselves in a world as cruel as theirs. One wrong move might cost them their heads. Anyway I would definitely recommend this book, this was great and I’m so excited to see how it will continue:)
