ABGEBROCHEN Ich weiß nicht, wie die Autorin das gemacht hat, aber sie hat einen Charakter erschaffen, auf den angeblich alle Frauen fliegen, obwohl er die charmante Ausstrahlung eines eiskalten, emotionslosen Finanzheinos hat. In Wahrheit ist Conor ein 38-jähriger Mann, der dringend Therapie braucht, weil er nicht über seinen Vater hinwegkommt. Er ist kein romantischer Held, sondern ein laufendes Mahnmal für emotionale Verkrüppelung. Der Funke zwischen Maya und Conor ist nicht existent. Die wahre Chemie im Buch hatte Maya mit jeder weiblichen Nebenfigur, und sogar mit Conners Ex. Maya himmelt jede Frau an, während sie über Conor selbst sagt, er sei "eigentlich nicht ihr Typ". Die Autorin hat versehentlich eine fantastische Frauenbeziehung geschrieben und sie dann mit einem absolut unpassenden Mann überschrieben, weil das Drehbuch es so wollte. Der Altersunterschied ist ein wiederkehrender Running Gag, den die Autorin uns beinahe in jedem Kapitel ins Gesicht reibt, als hätte sie Angst, wir könnten es vergessen. Conor ist ganz schön herablassend zu Maya und nennt sie eine "kindische Göre". Maya versucht sich als reife Frau zu präsentieren, und als ultimativen Beweis ihrer geistigen Reife zeigt sie ihm ihr Sexspielzeug, um zu beweisen, dass sie kein Kind ist. Später witzelt sie selbst darüber, das sie den Kinderpreis im Zoo bekommt neben Conor. Giiiirl, ich dachte du willst als eine erwachsene Frau von ihm gesehen werden? Der Rest des Buches ist ein Rätsel. Man sagt uns, dass alle Charaktere extrem intelligent sind, aber sie reden auf eine Weise, die so unnatürlich ist, dass es die ganze Geschichte unglaubwürdig macht. Sie reden wie unreife Teenager, die sich nur über "wer vögelt wen und wie oft" unterhalten. Und wozu dient die gesamte Szene als sich alle mit Drogen zudröhnen? Wir erfahren, dass Maya "ausgiebig mit Freizeitdrogen experimentiert" hat und weiß, wer Drogen verkauft. Was sollte das bezwecken? Damit wir wissen, Maya kennt sich mit Drogen aus? Und das soll uns beeindrucken? Es ist einfach so an der Realität vorbei, dass man sich fragt, was die Autorin sich dabei gedacht hat. Ich bin froh, dass ich aufgegeben habe, und es ist beruhigend zu wissen, dass ich nicht die Einzige bin, der es so geht. Ich werde Ali Hazelwood (vielleicht) noch eine letzte Chance geben. Möge meine nächste Lektüre all das haben, was mir hier gefehlt hat: eine glaubwürdige Beziehung, intelligente Charaktere und vor allem eine wirklich gute Geschichte.
Rezension von books.aremypassionIch bin ohne Erwartung in dieses Buch gegangen und wurde nicht enttäuscht. Ich finde es ist eine super süße Sommer-Romanze, in einem Wohlfühlsetting Italiens. Da ich AgeGap sehr gerne lese, hat es mich nicht enttäuscht.

However, I like her writing style and the characters were strongly developed. Borrowed the Book from my sister because I was bored and ran out of books on our vacation :) All in all entertaining and a quick read
