Rezension von Hannah Die Idee war toll, die Umsetzung aber nur mittelmäßig :/ Nachdem ich von der Autorin „Out on a Limb“ gelesen habe (Jahreshighlight), war ich total gespannt auf auf „Next of Kin“, aber so wirklich überzeugen konnte es mich leider nicht. Ich mochte das Konzept, zwei fremde die gemeinsam wohnen müssen, um ihre Geschwistern großzuziehen. Die Hintergrundgeschichten von Chloe und Warren waren super spannend und bewegend. Ich mochte auch die beiden als Protagonisten, aber für mich blieben alle Aspekte der Geschichte sehr oberflächlich. Chloe nimmt ihre neugeborene Schwester bei sich auf und trotzdem habe ich das Gefühl, dass Willow einen viel zu kleinen Teil in der Geschichte gespielt hat. Auch die Beziehung von Chloe und Warren blieb sehr oberflächlich. Es hat zwar Spaß gemacht, von den beiden zu lesen, aber die Entwicklung ihrer Gefühle und auch die Entstehung dieser konnte ich kaum nachvollziehen, weil es viel zu schnell ging und weil viele wichtige Szenen ausgelassen und übersprungen worden sind. Immer wieder wurden am Rande wichtige Momente erwähnt, die von der Autorin aber nicht ausgearbeitet wurden. Nicht nur in Bezug auf den romantischen Aspekt der Geschichte, sondern auch was Warren und Chloe als Charaktere mit einer Geschichte betrifft. In diesen ausgelassenen Szenen steckte so viel Potential, die Story bewegender und packender zu machen, aber das wurde nur leider nie umgesetzt. Ich fand das Buch nicht unbedingt schlecht und man fliegt da auch sehr gut durch, teilweise eben auch wegen der kurzen Kapitel, aber mir hat einfach total der emotionale Faktor gefehlt, der sich aber durch die Art des Erzählens gar nicht erst entwickeln konnte. Ich werde von der Autorin trotzdem noch ein paar Bücher lesen, weil „Out on a Limb“ einfach sooo gut war, dass ich nicht glauben kann, dass alle anderen Bücher der Autorin nur „mittelmäßig“ sind.
