Klara and The Sun

von Kazuo Ishiguro

Format:Hardcover

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * Once in a great while, a book comes along that changes our view of the world. This magnificent novel from the Nobel laureate and author of Never Let Me Go is "an intriguing take on how artificial intelligence might play a role in our futures ... a poignant meditation on love and loneliness" (The Associated Press). * A GOOD MORNING AMERICA Book Club Pick! Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: what does it mean to love?

AM I EVEN ENTITLED TO WRITE THIS REVIEW? At first I was like, “nah, I don’t feel like reading 300 pages from a robot’s POV,” but once I had grown accustomed to the way Klara showed us the world, I actually wanted to sink deeper into the story. And while there surely are a few details about the book that I couldn’t fully decipher (English's not my first language + a genre I've never read before), it raised questions that still live rent-free in my head. Hence, I’m curious to read more of Kazuo Ishiguro’s work. Especially the whole discourse on whether the “essence” of our humanity can or cannot be replaced by technology / the AFs. Up until now, I would have stuck to the opinion that our souls, consciousness, hearts, etc. are unique to us human beings. Hence, it made me feel a little “queasy” how Klara seemed so “human” at times—picking up on her surroundings and creating well-thought-through plans of her own. Same thing with how normalized AFs were in this (questionable) future, especially compared to daily interactions with real people. Is that really where we’re leading our world? Because with all of these new developments of the last years, it doesn’t seem so far-fetched anymore.

Took me so freaking long to finish this book , finally done . Still this a good book but not my genre . But poor Klara she helped Josie , healed her and ended up alone Maybe if I read this book in English I would like it more but in Russian ( thanks to my teacher) it’s was soooo hard to me to read and be involved in the reading . But I get the popularity of the book

A cute story that made me think about human behavior, morality, friendship and love. At the beginning I didn‘t really know where the story was going but it kept getting interessting and soon I was exited about how the story would end.
