Yvonne Meier-Haas (1928–2016) was a Romance-language scholar and primary-school teacher. Her husband, Herbert Meier (1928–2018), studied literature, art history and philosophy. He worked as a teacher and editor in Paris and Poitiers, and later as a dramaturg and actor in Switzerland. From 1955 onward, he worked as a freelance author, writing plays, novels, poetry and essays. Yvonne and Herbert Meier also jointly translated works of world literature, including texts by Molière, Jean Racine and Paul Claudel.
