Charles Ferdinand Ramuz

Charles Ferdinand Ramuz (1878–1947) was a Swiss writer from French-speaking Switzerland. He was born and raised in Lausanne. After studying classical philology in Lausanne and Paris, he lived in Paris from 1904 to 1914 before establishing himself as an author. His first novel, Aline (1905), was written in place of a dissertation. Among his best-known works are Vie de Samuel Belet, La Guerre dans le Haut-Pays, La Grande Peur dans la montagne, Farinet ou la Fausse Monnaie, and Derborance. In 1936, Ramuz received the Grand Prize of the Swiss Schiller Foundation.
