Yslaire

Yslaire, whose real name is Bernard Hislaire, was born in 1957. The Belgian comics artist and writer made his debut in the magazine „Spirou“ in the 1970s after studying graphic design, painting and photography at Brussels’ Institut Saint-Luc. He had taken drawing lessons since the age of eight, and his first published page appeared in „Spirou“ when he was 17. In 1978, he achieved his first major success with „Bidouille et Violette“. He adopted the name Yslaire for „Sambre“, which began appearing in „Circus“ in 1985. The series was initially scripted by Balac; from the second volume onward, Yslaire wrote it himself.
