Yann Martel

Yann Martel was born in Spain in 1963. The son of a diplomat, he grew up in Costa Rica, France, Mexico, Alaska and Canada, and later lived in Iran, Turkey and India. He became widely known for his novel Life of Pi (2001), which won the Man Booker Prize in 2002. The film adaptation, directed by Ang Lee, received four Oscars in 2013. Martel’s other works include the story collection The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios and the novels Beatrice and Virgil and The High Mountains of Portugal.
