Wolfgang Kaußen studied German, history, art history and philosophy at the University of Bonn, where he received a doctorate in philosophy in 1980 for a dissertation on Gottfried Benn. From 1980 onward, he worked in the editorial department of Suhrkamp Verlag. He published three volumes of his own poetry as well as translations of works by English-language poets.
