William T. Vollmann

William T. Vollmann, born in Los Angeles in 1959, is an American writer. He studied at Deep Springs College and earned a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from Cornell University. Vollmann has written novels, short stories, nonfiction, and reportage; his work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Esquire. His novel Europe Central received the National Book Award. Among his other major works is a seven-volume study of violence, which he worked on for twenty years and which was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Vollmann has received several honors, including the Whiting Award.
