William Faulkner (1897–1962) was an American writer and screenwriter. His extensive body of work, including the novels “Light in August” and “Absalom, Absalom!”, often explores the history and transformation of the American South. Alongside his literary work, Faulkner wrote screenplays, including those for “The Big Sleep” and “To Have and Have Not.” He received the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the 1950 Nobel Prize in Literature.
